How to grow adenium seeds with high germination rate

Sunny Garden - 14 June 2020

Below are some techniques to grow adenium seeds with high germination rate.

  • Preparing a container with a well-draining growing medium, like a perlite or sand and soil mix.
  • Put seeds into warm water from 6-8 hours and remove floating ones.
  • Put seeds in horizontal position and cover by a very think soil.
  • Gently water and keep enough humidity. Water once every 3 days until the seedlings appear.
  • Keep the temperature of the growing pot at between 27-29 Celsius degrees.
  • Seeds should germinate in 1 week. If they are not fresh, it may take longer. It shouldn’t last longer than 10 days.
  • When the seed germinates, it will usually dispose of the seed shell on the leaves on its own, but it’s stuck sometimes, and the leaves can’t open. If it doesn’t fall off in 2-3 days, feel free to GENTLY remove it, otherwise the seedling may die.
  • In about a month, the seedlings will be large enough to transplant to a permanent pot.
  • During the first 2-3 months after germination, the seedlings need to be under a strong light (not direct sun light) and on a warm spot, up to 38°C. Only after 2-3 months you can slowly let your plant get used to the sun, but first expose it for an hour or two early in the morning or late in the evening, when the sunlight is not too strong.
